Conference "From Ability to Accessibility - The ABCs of Inclusive Cultural Education" on 21.11.2023, Akademie der Kulturellen Bildung des Bundes und des Landes NRW

On 21.11.2023, the hybrid conference "From Ability to Accessibility - The ABC of Inclusive Cultural Education" took place at the Akademie der Kulturellen Bildung des Bundes und des Landes NRW. Experts, interested parties and multipliers from the fields of education, culture and youth welfare dealt with the question of how children and young people with and without special needs can learn to deal with diversity and difference through inclusive cultural education projects. The Department of Music and Movement in Rehabilitation and Disability Education [MuB] at TU Dortmund University contributed two papers. The scientific keynote speech was given by Prof. Dr. Susanne Quinten on the topic of "General guidelines for the instruction of artistic-creative tools in inclusive cultural work". She gave insights into the inclusive artistic research project Creability and presented the general guidelines as the central results of this research project. Claudia Schmidt, who has long been a lecturer in the MuB department, led one of three parallel themed workshops in the afternoon. In this workshop, methods were presented and tested with which children and young people with different musical backgrounds can successfully make music together. Songs were arranged in such a way that each "band member" was able to contribute their skills. In addition, the participants were given an insight into inclusive music school work and various inclusive band projects. 

The specialist conference is part of the program-accompanying quality development (PROQUA) of the funding program "Kultur macht stark. Bündnisse für Bildung" funding program of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
