By car

The campus of the technical university Dortmund is located near the Dortmund West motorway junction, where the A45 Sauerland line crosses the B1/A40 Ruhr expressway. The Dortmund-Eichlinghofen exit on the A45 leads to the South Campus, the Dortmund-Dorstfeld exit on the A40 leads to the North Campus. The university is signposted at both exits.

By bus and train

The "Dortmund Universität" S-Bahn station is located directly on the North Campus. From there, the S-Bahn line S1 runs every 20 or 30 minutes to Dortmund main station and in the opposite direction to Düsseldorf main station via Bochum, Essen and Duisburg. The university can also be reached by bus lines 445, 447 and 462. Timetable information can be found on the homepage of the Rhine-Ruhr Transport Association, and DSW21 also offer an interactive route network map.

By H-Bahn

The H-Bahn is one of the landmarks of the TU Dortmund. Line 1 runs every 10 minutes between Dortmund Eichlinghofen and the Technology Centre via Campus South and Dortmund University S, while Line 2 commutes every 5 minutes between Campus North and Campus South. It covers this distance in two minutes.

By flight

From Dortmund Airport, it takes just over 20 minutes to get to Dortmund Central Station with the AirportExpress and from there to the university with the S-Bahn. Düsseldorf Airport, about 60 kilometres away, offers a wider range of international flight connections and can be reached directly by S-Bahn from the university station.

In March 2025, the NRW state association of the Bundesverband Musikunterricht organized a Music Education Day at TU Dortmund University in the rooms of the “Music and Movement in Rehabilitation and Pedagogy for the Disabled [MuB]” department. Students, trainee teachers and teachers who wanted to further educate themselves in their subject of music and, above all, exchange ideas were invited.
A total of three workshops were offered in two tracks. In the first track, participants could choose between a support pedagogical topic (musicians' self-image and the image of others) and a digital topic (artificial intelligence + I-Pad in music lessons). After the lunch break, there was a hip-hop dance workshop. Here, the participants were introduced to the basic steps of hip hop and then created their own choreography.
The Music Education Day was co-organized by Felix Piltz from the team of the MuB department, who has been working with his expertise in special educational support as an assessor on the state board of the BMU NRW for several years.
